Sarum Camerata - A Community Musical Ministry

Cantabile Vocal Ensemble

This small auditioned vocal ensemble will be dedicated to the performance of classical music of all styles with emphasis on music rarely performed or heard. The Cantabile is a performance group for serious vocalists who prefer a more intense yet enjoyable and energetic choral experience. The ensemble will meet for eight (8) weeks before each scheduled concert. Auditions will be held just prior to the first rehearsal.

Each chorister will be required to purchase his/her own music and performance attire. Please contact Dr. Burgess at 704-633-3221 for further information.

Amadeus Children’s Chorus
Directed by Ms. Sarah Fuller Hall & Dr. Phillip E. Burgess

The chorus is open to children ages 8-18 who have an interest in and a love for music. Music performed will be drawn from all aspects of choral literature with emphasis on group vocal technique and proper singing. Dr. Elizabeth Carlton, noted music education and author of several books on children’s music, will serve s program advisor and guest instructor for the Amadeus Chorus. Auditions are not required for this ensemble. A concert at the church will make the end of each semester of study.

Alla Corda Strings
Directed by Ms. Mary Catherine Edwards

This ensemble is open to string players of all ages and abilities. The orchestra will rehearse for fourteen (14) weeks. It will present a concert at the end of each semester. Mrs. Edwards is a renowned performer and recognized teacher. She has been a member of the Charlotte Symphony since age 15. She ha performed with a broad spectrum of well known artists including Marlene Dietrich, Leonard Bernstein, Pavarotti, Yo Yo Ma, Dionne Warwick, Smokey Robinson, and Mannheim Steamroller.

Tuition covers the cost of the music for the semester.

Private Instruction
Private instruction in piano, organ, violin, viola, and voice is available on a limited basis through the Sarum Camerata. Please contact the church at 704-633-3221 for more details.

Scholarship Opportunities
Making music is fun and rewarding! The goal of this outreach ministry of St. Luke’s Chuch is to provide an opportunity for persons of all ages to learn about music an improve their existing musical skills. Money should not be a deterrent to anyone’s participation. Scholarship funding can be arranged for individuals wishing to participate in any of the three ensembles.

For members of St. Luke's, participation in an ensemble is free of charge with sponsorship of another participant in any of the performing groups. Please contact Dr. Burgess at 704-633-321.
