Known for it rich musical heritage, St. Luke’s provides a wonderful well-balanced music program under the direction of Dr. Phillip Burgess. We offer many opportunities for musical participation not only in worship services, but also in outreach. Our program allows parishioners of all ages and skill levels to become part of this vital ministry. Each Sunday at St. Luke’s soloists, ensembles and instrumentalists lend their talent to further the worship of God. New members are welcome to join any choir at any time.
Cherub Choir Ages 3-6. Introduction to the joys of music-making. Children learn the basic elements of singing, listening and rhythm. The Cherubs perform once a month during worship.
Boy and Girl Choir Grades two through six. Learn the fundamentals of music, rhythm and note-learning. Children sign and learn to play the hand bells. This choir affords our younger musicians a leadership role in the parish, as they provide the morning worship music at least once a month.
Handbell Choir Grade seven and beyond. Attracts people who want to join the music program, but in a smaller ensemble. Members range from teens to retirees, brought together by their love of music. Fun-filled rehearsals are also challenging and the choir performs regularly during morning worship and for special events.
Parish Choir Senior High and above. Recognized as one of the finest volunteer choirs in our region, this ensemble provides musical leadership during morning worship, Evensong and other special services. The choir tours extensively in the mid Atlantic region and receives numerous invitations to perform. Performance highlights include the Washington National Cathedral, Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, Virginia and the International Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. Rehearsals are held August through mid-June. Choir members showcase their individual talents during “a follies” show, always a sellout.
