Sunday School
For children in Preschool through 5th grade, Sunday School classes are held in the Fall through the Spring from 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM. The children of St. Luke’s learn “the faith once delivered to the saints” (Jude 3) through stories, creative activities, drama, games, sharing, discussion, music, and much more!
The basis for our children’s formation is the Episcopal Children’s Curriculum (or ECC.) ECC uses biblical storytelling, the study of church traditions and participation in worship to teach Christian faith and what it means to live out the covenant made in Holy Baptism. The curriculum extends over nine years for children from ages 3 to 11. Lessons are organized around the seasons of the Church year and draw from The Bible, The Book of Common Prayer, the hymnal, church liturgy and tradition .(from www.morehousepublishing.org).
All classes meet upstairs on the south side of the parish hall building.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School takes place each summer as a wonderful means to enrich
and enliven the faith of children. VBS as it is lovingly called is often a
homegrown curriculum—not straight out of a box! Past VBS weeks have includes
I Sing a Song of the Saints of God, Great Composers, A History of St. Luke’s,
Habitat for Humanity, Loving God’s
Creation: Caring for the Environment.
Fun! Fun! Fun!
Some may not expect to find these three words as a heading under Christian Education but at St. Luke’s it is important to us for our families and children to have a great time together. Recently our Sunday School has sponsored as Skate Party and looks forward to sponsoring other fellowship activities throughout the summer and down the road. At St. Luke’s, it is just as important to us for our children to learn to have fun together (a.k.a. fellowship), as it is for them to know the stories of the Bible!
